Another similar facet of service in New Albany that I have been a part of is the Village Coalition Against Hunger food pantry. Whenever my neighbor, who was, in fact, the founder of this program, was short staffed or needed some capable bodies to organize the pantry, my brother and I would jump into action. In addition to the food pantry, my family and I would make “bread runs,” bringing unsold food at the Giant Eagle to the local YMCA branch. Lastly, in New Albany, and through National Honor Society, I have participated in several charity and volunteering events ranging from the bake sales to the Market Street tree lighting ceremony; I am also in charge of a nature clean-up project that will remove the litter and trash build-up in our beautiful parks and trails. One of my greatest passions is contributing to the wellbeing of others who suffer from Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory disease that several members of my family, including myself, live with. Through the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, I have been able to promote awareness in my community and abroad, fundraise, and volunteer my time to numerous events. I have helped plan CCFA’s Take Steps Be Heard, Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis that takes place annually and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars that goes towards finding a cure. I was also recognized as a Top 10 fundraiser for the organization in 2014. In addition to my activities with CCFA, I have been able to volunteer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital; I have participated as a Mentor for newly diagnosed kids with Crohn’s disease in the IBD Connect Mentoring Program, and I have experienced first-hand the impact that this program has on people’s lives. Whether tutoring an underprivileged fourth grader, or mentoring a child who suffers from Crohn’s disease, these experiences have humbled me and shown me how meaningful relationships with others can
