Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation. This is a very broad definition, but it is so on purpose. I think…

If someone would say to me six months ago, let’s plan a trip to the museum I would gladly say no as art is not something that peaks my interests. However, my perception has changed after registering for Art Appreciation this semester. The class has proven the point that judging anything that one doesn’t understand is wrong. Thus, it has opened my eyes not just to the artwork itself, but also to the life and legacy of the artists. In that same token, art is truly the window into the people’s…

He is known largely for a few of his paintings, one of them being the “Mona Lisa.” Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. “The Scream” I really like this painting because somehow it involves mystery and insecurity and to my eyes, the rare views in it reflect a sense of how deep the feelings and thoughts of a person can be. In addition, the fact that the composition does not allow viewers to appreciate the face of the screaming person, is what has drawn me to it. Even though it seems to be that it was a lovely afternoon for everyone, it seems that it was not for the scared looking person. Although two boats are…

I felt uncomfortable as I looked around. Everything was so distant from what I was used to. I could the eyes looking at me wondering why I looked so distinct from them. I Believe In Appreciation I believe in appreciation. When I was a child, my mother often told me to appreciate what I had in my life, as she consistently tells me now. Over the course of several years, I started to understand why she told me to so as a result of experiences and tragedies inhibiting the world around me. Those single moments, single experiences, have led me to realize how blessed I was to have what I had in life also taught me the preciousness of life. I also learned that I will…
