Personal Narrative: I Believe In Appreciation

I Believe In Appreciation I believe in appreciation. When I was a child, my mother often told me to appreciate what I had in my life, as she consistently tells me now. Over the course of several years, I started to understand why she told me to so as a result of experiences and tragedies inhibiting the world around me. Those single moments, single experiences, have led me to realize how blessed I was to have what I had in life also taught me the preciousness of life. I also learned that I will never be truly appreciative of what have but, perhaps, I can use the experiences given to me to shape what I'd rather be. I remember the first time about what a blessed situation I had when I was nine years of age. I remember being lectured by my mother about how there were children willing to kill in order to eat what was on my dinner plate when I refused to eat my brussels sprouts. I remember not believing her until seeing first hand what she was talking about during my voyage to Africa. I remember getting off that plane and firstly noticing how blindingly hot the suns rays were1- that sun was grinning at my misery, almost as if there was worse to expect. I've found several over the past few days. I don't seem appreciative that I'm receiving one of the finest educations at one of the best schools in the country. I don't seem appreciative of the fact that there are people around me to provide solace when I feel unsettled. I don't seem appreciative that I have appendages allowing me to write my beliefs My senses, one of nature's greatest gifts, are under-appreciated. I am a selfish, greedy, neurotic, inconstantly hypocritical, bigoted person- a prime example of the average human5. Yes, there are amazing people out there, but I think most are like me. I can't change who I am, but I simply refuse to live without reforming
