So the activity we choose must be age appropriate and well as interesting and useful to the learners. Teaching and training assistant must be focusing “on individual potential and styles, as well as on the needs of the surrounding system”. I am an Assistant Tutor Coordinator and Learning Specialist for Tulane University’s Academic Services Center for Student-Athletes (ASC). Previously, I provided support as a Mentor for North Carolina State University’s Academic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA). Furthermore, my professional experience as a Lead Counselor at the Emily Krzyzewski Center, and AmeriCorps member for the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative and the Durham Literacy Center, respectively, has allowed me the opportunity to work with diverse and often underrepresented populations in a variety of settings. These positions have given me insight into the concerns of the modern traditional college student. As a National Board Certified Counselor, a graduate from a Counsel…
In the heart of San Francisco lays the University of San Francisco. Due to USF’s location in the urban area, students are exposed to cultural diversity and the city life, as stated by Ariana Pistorina, the presenter and assistant director of admissions. My choice to attend this presentation was mostly influenced by USF’s location near the Golden Gate Bridge. USF’s main focus is on social justice, which is why USF students learn to be open to experiencing new religions and cultures. An interesting fact that I learned about USF is that theater students perform their plays at prisons that have a relationship with USF.…
In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…
The last few days that I have been at my practicum site has exposed me to many different aspects of post acute care. I started to observe and record my feedback from the nurses, pharmacists, and therapists on the discharge procedure. One of my major projects is to propose a better way and give feedback to the senior leaders on their discharge method and how to better this process for the family members and patient. The discharge method can be very overwhelming at times because the patient and family more than likely went through a situation that happen unexpectedly. Also, during this time, I started on my other project, which is to reformat the post job offer questionnaire.…
I first started to ask around the faculty to see if anyone would be a willing participant in my Senior Project. A staff member referred me to Mr. Fasse’s office and when asked he happily agreed. We sat and discussed his likes and dislikes. I took note of his wants and his ideas he had for me. We discussed things such as paint color and storage ideas.…
The first days of school are the most crucial in implementing procedures and routines. For example, when a visitor walks into my room the students know to show “peace and quiet”. Also, to get my student’s attention I say, “Show Me Hands and Eyes” and they follow by repeating “Hands and Eyes”. This is a great way to get them focused quickly during instruction. Every child in my classroom has a job.…
4. When the students get to end the end of their phrase “you”, then they should have their eyes on me, mouths clothes, freeze, and have nothing in their hands. 5. Practice and reinforce Procedures: Morning procedure: 1.…

I chose to attend a community college for three main reasons: affordability, location, and small classes. Right out of high school I started college at a public, four-year college, University of River Falls; I had to drop out a month in due to medical issues. At that time I was unaware that I could make a medical appeal and get a full refund, so when I tried college again I was over a thousand dollars in debt from my first attempt. I’m on disability, so my income is limited and I can’t work that many hours. The location of my current community college, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, is right by most of my doctors, so the location is a great fit for me.…
First of all I would like to start my paper with detailed information about schools that I had my observation experiences at. I visited three different classrooms in two different schools. First classroom I visited was at Kiser Dayton Public School, preschool classroom with IEP and special education program. Second school was Horizon Science Academy, where I observed fifth grade and recourse room. Lastly I visited Kiser schools again, and observed Self contained multiple disability classrooms.…
Over winter break, I had the opportunity to work as a substitute preschool teacher at the Jewish Community Center of Columbus Ohio. I was placed in the Turtle Room, the classroom for two to three year olds. Since a large part of the student population is Jewish, the preschool cafeteria only provided Kosher foods. I distinctly remember one day talking to the lead teacher in the classroom, Amanda about how one little boy, Henry would never eat his lunch or snacks. Henry would stick to only the foods that he knew like mandarin oranges or carrots and that was all he would eat.…
Extended school year was an option I had heard discussed during IEP meetings in my fifteen years of experience, but today I was able to observe one of these classrooms in action first hand. The lesson I observed took place at a small group table with the teacher leading the lesson, a paraprofessional providing one on one support to one student, and a nurse supporting another student who is using a Tobii for communication. The teacher began the lesson by introducing a set of five sight words. The teacher then read the words aloud, gave a simple meaning, provided a sentence with the word, and the students traced the words with their fingers.…
