I started my Instructional observation project and conversation project by having a conversation with my Assistant Principal, Mr. BK Walker. During this conversation we discussed his protocol for observations and what he is looking for while in classrooms. Mr. Walker provided me with the observation form that is used in Wythe County Public schools. He stated that the pre-observation meeting is to get an idea of what will be covered in the lesson for the day. During the observation he said that he looking for student engagement, sols being covered and if the teacher is keeping up with the pacing guide. Mr. Walker went on to state that the post observation meeting is to give feedback to the teacher to help them grow professionally. Some of the stations are set up at the desks while others are on tables throughout the classroom and the floor. One of the activities was the "library corner" as Mrs. Cooper explained it to me, she said that there are several books in the library and the children are encouraged to open them, look at the pictures, read them aloud, or to a friend. Furthermore, Mrs. Cooper explained that many of the books in the library were ones that they have already read as a class, and this gives the children confidence because they are already familiar with it. Another station in the classroom was set up on a table and on this table were a bunch of buttons, I would guess about 100.…

We expect to observe behaviors like these in this setting.…

On Tuesday, November 14, I taught my second math lesson to Mrs. Beach’s fourth grade class. This experience was very unique compared to the first lesson that I taught because Mrs. Beach had a substitute. Thankfully, I kept this in mind and tried to anticipate behavioral issues that would be present because there was a substitute in the classroom. Nevertheless, I felt as though this lesson went way better than the first one, simply because I felt more comfortable with the topic that I was teaching. Furthermore, I kept all of the feedback in mind from teaching my first lesson, so that this lesson could be better.…
