In the 2nd amendment of the United States constitution it clearly says that the right to bear arms should not be infringed (US congress, 2nd amendment, 1791). This year one major topic that is being argued about is the right to bear arms and who should possess this right. When immigrants from far away lands step foot onto American soil they feel that they should have the protection that American citizens do. Citizens and immigrants alike do have the right to feel safe where they live. One major ban that helped in reducing the number of gun related fatalities was the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994.

Senator Feinstein argues that if the 2013 Assault Weapons Ban was in place then the Aurora movie theater shooting incident would have never occurred. Senator Feinstein believes that there is absolutely no need for blue collar workers and ordinary citizens to have such weapons. Senator Johnson says he believes James Holmes (the person convicted of the vile act of the movie theater massacre) to be sick and demented. He also states in the interview that there is no solution in sight for this tragedy (interview, 2013). Senator Johnson states a strong point when he says just because the law is passed doesn’t mean the criminal won’t break the law (Interview, 2013). The families of the victims of the Newton massive school shooting are out raged at the National Rifle Association (NRA). The President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, thinks the only person who can stop a bad person with a gun is a good guy with a gun (NRA, 2013). Protesters say that the NRA is killing our children (NRA, 2013). CEO LaPierre still thinks guns are the answer to the problem. According to LaPierre, America protects the president, banks and public building with guns (NRA, 2013). Our children should be protected as well. In America, a child witnesses 16,000 murders and 200,000 acts of violence by the age of 18 (NRA, 2013). That is really unacceptable. The solution to this
