In 1960 the band was struggling to find a permanent drummer until drummer Pete Best auditioned for the band. Pete best was their drummer from 1960 up until 1962 when he was kicked out of the band. A decision that is still under speculation. The Beatles then hired Ringo Starr, who had only been in the band for a weeks when they recorded their first single “P.S I Love You”/ “Love Me Do” Early years (1963-1965) In 1963 “Please Please Me” topped the british music charts for 30 weeks Proving “the Beatles” to be the most popular rock and roll band in the UK the Beatles took inspiration from earlier rock and rollers such as: Elvis, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, and the Everly Brothers. In their second album in 1963: “with the beatles” music critics believe their talents as instrumentalists and composers were expanding quickly as shown in songs such as “she loves you” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” each single sold over a million copies.
