The Beatles Impact On Society

The Beatles were a pop/rock band active from the early 60’s to around 1970.

They contributed so much to rock and pop music and have been awarded multiple grammys and prestigious awards over their short span of only around ten years. However their legacy still remains.

Formation of the band

In the 50s guitarist and singer John Lennon formed a band known as “the Quarrymen” In 1957 “the Quarrymen” added guitarist: Paul McCartney, to the roster. Not much later George Harrison (a friend of Paul McCartney’s) joined the band. Through the late 50’s members of “the Quarrymen” came and went but the trio of guitarist remained. Proving that they were the most compatible with each other. In 1960 the band changed their name to “the silver Beatles”

In their second album in 1963: “with the beatles” music critics believe their talents as instrumentalists and composers were expanding quickly as shown in songs such as “she loves you” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” each single sold over a million copies. Capitol records took a chance on “I Want to Hold Your Hand” It didn’t take long to reach the top of the U.S charts. in February of 1964 The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show which significantly increased their popularity in the united states. The Legacy The Beatles have been Awarded Multiple achievements for their music and for the way they affected the culture. They’ve been awarded 10 grammy awards, and In 1965 Queen Elizabeth II appointed all four Beatles Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). At that time the honor was primarily given to military veterans and civic leaders. They were even included in TIME magazine’s list of the most important people in the twentieth century. The Beatles are statistically shown as the best-selling band in history showing that they have sold more than a billion units
