Though out my time in HDFS 3080, I have caught myself putting the effective interpersonal skills we have learned to use. I am now more conscious about the way I talk to others, and how I formulate responses. I have learned that the effective interpersonal skills I have been taught actually do help me communicate more effectively. In this exercise, I was to choose a relationship partner and engage in a relationship assessment. I chose my boyfriend of 8 years, Hunter. Goal 1: Increase Your Level of Sharing A) When we started asking the first five questions, I felt very awkward and nervous asking such straightforward questions. I felt at ease when I told Hunter why I was proud of him and to be known as his girlfriend. I believe it was easier for me to answer positive questions than more negative ones. B) After dating for so many years, I originally thought being open with one another came very easily, but when we were made to sit down and ask specific questions so formally I felt uneasy about how we each would react. I was surprised when Hunter was very open with me and that made me feel more comfortable opening up to him. After Hunter showed me how open he was to this experience, I felt more at ease as well. The questions flowed, and it turned into more of a conversation between us rather than a series of questions. C) Engaging in this activity drew us closer together and prepared us for the rest of the questions in the assignment. We both grew more comfortable talking…

In planning my class and creating the curriculum, I will purposefully pursue resources that come from other countries and cultures, and are not just out of a commonly used textbook. Many of my sources will be primary sources that proclaim the voice of minorities. Even using one such source throughout the year and studying it thoroughly can help my students to recognize that…

Introduction Setting goals for your children aimed at developing into healthy adults is essential. But as a parent you must be careful in how you are doing it, otherwise it will backfire, and you will end up witnessing your kids doing the very opposite of what you want to do. That could cost them their health one day--and even their life. Indeed, the problem is quite serious. There has been a marked increase in childhood obesity in the last thirty years, which, in turn, leads to a host of…
The cognitive connectionism theory can be used to describe Amanda’s language development. In this theory “language is learned, not innate. It relies on generic cognitive information-processing and pattern-recognition mechanisms” (Wolf-Nelson, 2010, p.61). In this theory children use cognitive abilities such as attention, perception, working memory and retrieval to receive information form their environment and construct language competence by using information processes and language. Prosecutor Mike Nifong 's actions in this case were criminal. Nifong used the public press of this case to attempt to further his career and only presented evidence that was beneficial to his agenda. This is an example of criminal mind because he went against ethical morals. Another conclusion that can be seen about criminals is that they are liars. For example, Nifong withheld the DNA tests to his advantage. Another example of criminal behavior is that they are controlling. Nifong attempted to…
First Nations for their cooperation. (Salomons, 2009) The people of the Stoney Point tribe were promised their land would be returned to them but even long after the war ended and the world moved forward, the land now known as “Camp Ipperwash” was occupied by the government. This is where the situation becomes violent and where I, as a resident of Ipperwash Beach, find myself unsettled and in disbelief. On September 4th 1995, approximately thirty members of the band, accompanied by children,…
