soul was composed of several parts, including the 'Ka' or breath, which continued after death and remained near the earthly body. In Christianity, the first book of the Bible, Genesis, speaks of the 'breath of life', while in Hinduism, 'Atman' comes from Sanskrit meaning 'essence' or 'breath' . (Britanica, 2010). In the Hatha Yoga Pradipika we can find Svatmarama's quote, “When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.” (Henderson, 2014, p 161) In yoga, Pranayama is the formal practice of the breath and it identifies four parts to breathing: inhalation airful pause exhalation air-enpty pause In the west there are 2 parts to breathing: Inhalation Exhalation This is the difference between knowing that we breathe and knowing our breath, the latter of which is both deeper and more personal. Pranayam is referred to as a vital life force that sustains us. When a person understands the implications of knowing breath on this deeper level, each individual's breath can be seen as the essence of life. Breathe can be seen as a way to “bring the outside in and the inside out”. When looked at politically it can matter whose breath is seen as vital and whose is not.(Górska, p 29). Similarly, Lenart Škof's book, Breath of Proximity: intersubjectivity, ethics and peace, states that breath is the essence of human existence. The breath or wind…

following inhalation, the gastrointestinal (GI) tract following ingestion and the skin following dermal exposure (ASTDR, 1995). In humans, it was reported that B(a)P measured in the lungs following inhalation of soot particles was much lower than expected. This may be due to the ability of the pulmonary epithelial cells to metabolise B(a)P thereby facilitating its absorption and clearance from the lungs (IPCS, 1998). Occupational studies have inferred that inhaled PAHs are absorbed by humans,…
