The statehouse is built in the Greek Revival style which is a design type based on the buildings of Ancient Greece. This was popular in the US from 1820 through the early 1860s. It’s a masonry building consisting of Columbus limestone on the exterior which was taken from a quarry on the banks of the Scioto River. Located in front of the Telfair Museum in Savannah, Georgia is a statue of the Greek architect-sculptor Phidias. The statue of Phidias fits in well with its surroundings. It is centered by four other statues. The surrounding statues are also iconic artists: Michelangelo, Rubens, Rembrandt, and Raphael.
