The statehouse is built in the Greek Revival style which is a design type based on the buildings of Ancient Greece. This was popular in the US from 1820 through the early 1860s. It’s a masonry building consisting of Columbus limestone on the exterior which was taken from a quarry on the banks of the Scioto River. I chose to describe the architectural elements of the back side of the statehouse. Looking at the portico at the center of the building, the top contains the pediment space. The sima and raking geison run along the top of the pediment while the cornice is at the bottom forming the rectangular shape. The pediment has a unique design carved in the stone.
