Katniss Everdeen
Katniss Everdeen is the main character of the hit movie “The Hunger Games” based off the book written by Suzanne Collins. Katniss grew up in the Seam, the poorest part of district 12. Katniss comes from a family of four, but since her father died in a mining explosion, she has been forced to take the place of her mother, who shut down and isolated herself, and Katniss has to take care of her younger sister, Primrose. This involved breaking a lot of laws and putting herself at risk constantly. Once a year the traditional Hunger Games takes place, this is made up of 24 tributes, 2 from each district, a girl and a boy, to fight to the death. The events of her life so far have made Katniss brave, selfless and perseverant, these

Even though volunteering was as good as a death sentence, she did so to save her sister, I think this was really selfless because you can tell by the way Katniss didn’t even hesitate, that she would die to keep her sister safe, and at the time, she thought that’s exactly what she had just agreed to. Another time that selflessness is shown is when Rue was killed, Katniss stayed to show her respects and make sure that Rue was comfortable, even when she could’ve been attacked in the clearing and was at risk of being found, Rue reminded Katniss of Prim, they had the same caring personality and were around the same …show more content…
Obviously all tributes would have to have level of perseverance to get through the Hunger Games, but Katniss exhibited an almost constant stream of it. The main one I noticed was the scene of which she was cutting down the Tracker Jacker nest, just as Rue had told her. The Tracker Jacker ‘s were deadly and if she had been stung enough times, she would have died, and she DID get stung quite a lot, but she kept cutting the branch in order to save herself, because she had promised Prim she would try to win. Katniss also showed perseverance during the fire started by the Game makers, after she got hit by the deadly fireball, she could have easily just given up and let the fire consume her, but np, she continued to run with a burnt leg, to save herself, the pain must have been excruciating, but she kept going, she didn’t give up. I think that perseverance is a grate trait to have because it gives you a fighting motivation to keep going, no matter what.

After everything that Katniss went through, she somehow was able to keep hold of her morals and values, killing as little people as possible. Even after the Hunger Games, Katniss is different, yes, but she isn’t a complete nutshell, she has learnt to deal with the trauma, and though she still has nightmares, she seems to be

Being a physically talented woman allows her to make people believe that her side will ultimately be the winning one. This gives Katniss the ability to lead effectively, as those following her look up to her in part because of her strength. An effective leader will protect those they love and those who follow and believe in them. This is clearly demonstrated in Katniss’ first Hunger games. The Hunger games are a competition invented by the Capitol (the essential elite government) where a tribute from each district (the working classes) is drawn at random to compete to the death in a programmed arena until a lone victor remains.…

Throughout the book, her intelligence is exemplified with her awareness of surveillance. First, Katniss was conscious of the cameras as soon as she volunteered to take Prim’s place. Kelley Wezner says, “… Katniss equates the cameras with self-control as she struggles to contain her tears so that she will not look weak to competitors during the evening of replays of her district’s reaping” (154). I believe Katniss was smart to hold back her emotions because if she didn’t she would have looked like an easy target to the other tributes and I also believe her ability to control her emotions at such a problematic time showed her mental strength and possibly helped her gain sponsors. The second example is during the first night in the games when Katniss is hiding out in a tree and she finds out Peeta is working with the careers.…
