The morning of the reaping, Katniss assumed it was going to be like all the others. She never expected that just one piece of paper would cause her to go on a crazy adventure. From that morning on, Katniss would become a whole new person. She would become more confident and powerful, rather than a poor beggar. Through Katniss’ journey, she will go through certain steps that will transform her into a hero.
Her first step would be the call to the adventure. At the reaping her sister’s name was called to go into the Hunger Games. Katniss did not, she had no option to think about her decision; even if she did have the chance she wouldn’t have changed her mind. Instead this is when she would meet her first super natural aid. “For those who have not refused the call, the first encounter of the hero-journey is with a protective figure who provides the adventurer with amulets” (Campbell 57). Effie is an aid that always helps Katniss gain publicity. Later on she meets Haymitch and Cinna. Haymitch is her main supernatural aid. He gives her advice on how to win and also goes to the capitol to get her sponsors for the game. He is constantly there to help her survive.
Next, Katniss will have to cross the first threshold. Crossing this threshold happens when the hero enters unfamiliar territory, this is also where conflicts will begin. That’s exactly what happens when Katniss boards the capitol train. This train contains food and a bunch of fancy items that she has never encountered before.
