She was the one to take care of the other in her family because her father had been killed. There was no mistaken she would do anything for her family including volunteering as tribute for her sister, Prim, in the games. Now after winning The Games, the quarter quell, and becoming the face of the rebellion Katniss does not know who she is. Therefore in the beginning of the book Katniss had very bad depression, PTSD, and a need for revenge. These things all lead to her needing to be reminded of who she was. Here is an example of this from the book “My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am seventeen years old. My home is District 12. I was in the Hunger Games. I escaped. The Capitol hates me…” ( 4). Through the book Katniss tries to do things to remember who she was before the games, but as many people tell her she has to learn how to be a different version of herself now. When she realizes this you see her go after what she wants and started putting up a fight against her PTSD and depression. Throughout the book not only had Katniss displayed courage many times, but so did other main characters. I believe the author was trying to get across the message that courage is very important for everyone to have. This is shown in the main mission of the rebellion when a group of soldiers, that included katniss, went after The Capitol. They had to go through many obstacles that many people would not have had the courage to do so. A more emotional rather than physical courage was shown by Katniss when she had to decide whether or not to kill The President of The Capitol or of the lost district. As said by Katniss “I release the string. And President Coin collapses over the side of the balcony and plunges to the ground. Dead.” (372). Katniss had to have courage to go against what she was being told to do and go with her gut to kill the President of the lost
