The Hunger Games begins on the day of the reaping in District 12. Katniss Everdeen, the 16 year old main character, meets up with her best friend Gale so they can do some hunting before the reaping that afternoon. Little does she know, her life is about to change forever… The Hunger Games has multiple setting throughout the book. It begins in Panem. Which is the country that contains 12 districts, each providing for the capitol. District 12, that is where Katniss and her family lives. There are 13 districts that compete in the Hunger games. District 12 is a very poor coal-mining district located in the area called Appalachia. Katniss and her family live in the poor section of District 12, the Seam. It is where the coal-miners live and work. The district is surrounded by an electrified fence from the woods. People doubt District 12 because it is proven that they almost never win the Hunger Games. The actual games take place in an arena just inside the capitol. In the Hunger Games, the main character and narrator is 16 year old Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is strong, resourceful, and very mature. Katniss is the backbone of her family which consists of, her mother, and her younger sister, Prim. Katniss is extremely protective of her younger sister, and she volunteers as tribute to …show more content…
The book is perfectly written and it keeps me on the edge of my seat after every chapter. As you continue to read the Hunger Games book series it just gets better and better. I think a strength of this book is that is has an amazing plot. The author, Suzanne Collins, wrote this with amazing ideas. Although, I think a weakness about this book is that there are a lot of little details that you need to be sure of to fully comprehend the novel. Missing a detail could potentially ruin the book for you. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10. There are some graphic scenes, which help keep this novel
