Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization, but a larger question becomes, is leadership a simple action? When one thinks about popular leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, and even unpopular leaders, Napoleon and Hitler. These leaders did not simply lead a group of people, there was more to their action. Each of these of these leaders have left a legacy for us to study, the actions they took to accomplish the goals they reached are the road map that we look at to see what makes a good leader behind good leadership. The mark of a good leader is one that inspires others to “dream more, do more and become more.” Each of these leaders had a vision, a dream, or a goal they sought to carry out. The mark of a good leader is when your dream, your vision, your goal, aligns those of others and empowers them to achieve there’s and yours as well.
I had the wonderful pleasure of interviewing the Director of Housing and Dining, Dr. James Bridgeforth for my leader interview. I personally have worked with Dr. Bridgeforth on several occasions and have experienced his leadership style first hand and I believe he demonstrates those characteristics that Mr. Adams refers to.
