“We The People” The first words of the Preamble to the United States Constitution, the document that this country is based on. Most Americas could recite the Preamble, but when it comes to the rest of the Constitution, they are clueless. The Second Amendment clearly gives the people the right to bear arms as it says, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of the Free State, their right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment is one of many parts the constitution that many American citizens, and in recent years, the American Government seems to overlook in the attempt to establish multiple gun control laws. “Gun bans prevent law abiding citizens from using guns in self defense, and ultimately fives the advantage to the criminal” John Stossel states in his article “Gun Control Puts People at Risk.” As evidence shows, the banning of guns fails to protect people because the laws are ineffective, they prevent people from an effective way of self defense, and the laws don’t solve the real problem, which is the gun handler. The person controlling the gun is. “The ever so popular saying “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, seems like a stupid pro-gun argument. From this argument, many Liberals say, “well the people need the guns to kill people.”” (The NRA). Which they are correct in saying that, but again, the guns are not the source of the problem, the person is, and to be specific, mental illness is. As Peterson says “The real issue needs to be resolved, and the American citizens need to solve the problem.” The citizens need to talk about it, and provide services, resources, and other support to those who need it (Peterson). People need to get their facts straight. Yes, the gun is providing a way to kill, but the gun cannot pull its own trigger, someone has to do the
