Right To Bear Arms Pros And Cons

Many topics in today’s society can be connected to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. One of the more commonly brought up issues deals with guns. In the Declaration, this is the right to bear arms, while in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, it is known as the Second Amendment. In the past, this ability to own a gun was given to the people because colonists and founders wanted others to have a weapon to protect themselves in case the government became repressive. The people would be able to rebel against the government. Another reason behind being able to bear arms is so that individuals are able to defend themselves in time of need, as well as those who protect the country and are involved in the military.
Dealing with the right to bear arms and Second Amendment issues have recently become a point of interest for many, especially those in politics. Issues such as this are very complex, with conclusions varying greatly; even the Supreme Court has gone back and forth on different cases debating whether or not owning guns in certain situations is safe for the nation. Individuals who own guns are to be at fault for catastrophes committed, not the gun itself. Unfortunately, the object being used in most cases happens to be a gun. Recently, within the past few years there have been many mass shootings in places, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, or the attack of a social services office in San Bernardino, California. Just these two examples led to forty deaths, including both children and adults. The tragedy of these events adds to the emotion of the debate. The debate cannot happen however, without a close examination of the Declaration, Constitution, and Bill of Rights, and that is why these documents remain relevant
