The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control

The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the rights of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” However, many believe that it has been, in fact, infringed upon. Gun Control laws have been passed along with many other measures to make it hard for someone to buy and own a gun. But is it necessarily a bad thing? The Government has compromised on the Second Amendment, but it is for the sake of security of the people and the nation. The sad truth is that some people would abuse and take advantage of the right to own a weapon. The Supreme Court ruling in the District of Colombia v. Heller case says that the Second Amendment, “… is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” The Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act says that it is unlawful to sell a weapon to anyone with the following conditions: under indictment or has been convicted for any crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year, a fugitive from justice, an unlawful user or addict of marijuana or any depressant or stimulant drug, and has been declared mentally ill or been committed to any mental institution. These people understand that a weapon is a dangerous and lethal piece of equipment only to be used in times of great need. If a person is a law abiding citizen, they can apply for a permit. Most permits allow concealed carries. These weapons are to be used only in justified times under the law, most instances are for self-defense. In addition to concealed carries, separate permits for hunting weapons are needed. These hunting weapons should only be used during the right hunting seasons and on the right animals.
