The Importance Of Gun Control And Education

Improved Essays
Through recent years gun control has been a hot topic of discussion among the general public. Many individuals stand behind the constitution and defend the people’s right to bear arms, while others stand behind statistics on the rise in school shootings and armed crimes throughout the United States. I personally believe that strict gun control and education is the answer to lower the recent increase in mass shootings, school shooting and gun related crimes.
Gun control laws don’t necessarily take away and individual’s right to bear arms. In countries like Germany or Sweden all individuals have the right to own guns, yet they have the lowest reported gun related crimes, due to their strict laws and regulations on gun ownership. For example,

Though gun control is a necessary thing, many are against stricter gun control laws. Those opposed to stricter gun control laws would state that gun control would have no effect on reducing crime (Gottieb 1991). However, according to the Huffington Post, which states that with “Higher gun violence tend to have much less stringent gun laws” (States 2013). Having gun laws that put severe restrictions on guns are unhelpful and impractical. The government can make it almost impossible to obtain a…

The third point that I want to bring up is the 62 mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and 2012, 49 of the shooters used legally obtained guns. Collectively, 143 guns were possessed by the killers with about 75% obtained legally. The process people learn about these acts are through the media portraying it in the way which the media wants you to know. Many times the questions asked of the innocent bystanders are one sided, directed in a certain direction and it doesn’t give the American people the whole story. The gun control laws are not the issue, it is the way we teach people on the ways they are supposed to be used.…

There has been a lot of conflict over the fact that guns are being carried and allowed in public places. Now a days because of all the conflicts, for example the ones that Bowling for Columbine shows, the gun controversy has increased, especially in schools. There are many pin points for the occurrence of gun violence. The two most common are abuse, association with gangs, and guns. Schools imply laws that try to prevent these events from happening and protecting the youth from danger in schools.…

The Issue of Gun Control Gun Control is a problem because there is a lack of education amongst the people of this country regarding the safe use of guns and the role they play in our world today. In an article released by USA Today titled “Steps to Stricter Gun Control” it is assessed that, “Nothing will prevent another mass shooting like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The issue is lack of education...” From this quote, it can be suggested that with more insight regarding guns, gun control would be a much easier problem to solve. Many people do not understand the things guns are used for because it simply does not apply to their lifestyle.…

Gun Control does not prevent Gun Violence Gun control is a very controversial topic especially in today's society; whether gun control is good or bad is a very talked about subject especially when it comes to the United States. This is a very touchy subject because guns are a part of a lot of people's daily lives. People that are anti gun control believe that no one should be able to put any restrictions on guns. They believe that people should be able to buy a firearm just like a pair of boots or a tool. They also believe that if you take firearms away from the law abiding citizens that just leaves firearms in the hands of people that don't abide by the law and leaves them defenseless.…

Gun Control is Not the Solution Increased Gun Control in the United States is absurd, useless, and unnecessary. In order to increase safety all throughout the United States time and effort must not be spent towards limiting gun owners of their rights. The tragic rash of school, religious, and workplace shootings has turned up the heat on the public conversation about guns. In nearly all of these cases gun laws would not have stopped the shooters from obtaining a firearm.…

On one side of the argument, people are fighting to restrict guns with the belief that it will reduce the number of shootings and crimes. While on the other side, people are fighting to regulate guns with the belief that the right to bear arms will reduce shootings and crimes. Banning guns will just take guns from the hands of good people not from criminals.…

Gun control causes a lot of violence and crime in the U.S., there needs to be more restrictions. Make it harder for Americans to purchase handguns, but can carry them as concealed weapons for protection. In the last year, ten thousand seven hundred and twenty eight people died from getting shot by a handgun(Gun-Control Dishonesty). Handguns should only be for protection, not because you want to kill someone. The second amendment states that it is your right to bear arms(Gun Control Costing States).…

62% of the 31,000 deaths caused by a gun are suicides (Cornell 2). According to Arthur L. Kellerman, MD, “residents of homes where a gun is present are 5 times more likely to experience a suicide than residents of homes without guns” (A Case for Gun Control). I have experienced the effects of suicide within my own family. One month ago, my cousin Marisa committed suicide. She was 26 years old and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years prior to the tragic incident.…

Gun Control is a heavy topic in America today. Since the shooting in Parkland, Florida last week, many students and teachers have been encouraging a change to be made in laws in honor of the victims. They are asking lawmakers and government officials to put partisanship aside, and to work together to put an end to this unfortunate, frequent problem so that the mass shooting at their school last week will be the last school shooting in America. However, disagreement on what the best solution prevents action from being made. For example, there is disagreement on whether there should be an increase in gun control, despite the statistics from other countries that have outlawed guns and the call to action from the mass shooting victims and their families.…

In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
