Texting and driving, one minute you are in your lane the next minute you are flipped in a ditch or you ended up colliding with another driver. Texting and driving has been a huge problem ever since the invention of a smart phone. People text, change music, and even use social media all day while driving. Their phones are attached to their eye sockets twenty four seven. “Forty percent of all American teens say they have been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a way that put people in danger, according to a Pew survey.” The risk of texting and driving is serious you never know what could happen when you look down for 30 seconds or more taking your eyes off the road. “Eleven percent of drivers aged 18 to 20 who were involved in an automobile accident and survived admitted they were sending or receiving texts when they crashed.” That is only the ones who want to confess to their fault. There could be a significant amount of other teens involved in crashes who may have not survived, because of one little glance down to see who that text or direct message was from. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute did research and their conclusion was that texting and driving generates a 23 times higher percentage of the driver to get in to an accident. That alone is a huge jump in to a catastrophic event that could end someone or their peer’s life in a blink of an eye. Texting and driving is nothing to play around with it is a serious matter that needs to be taken care of immediately. The focus we put in to our smart phones complete distracts us from what we are doing. That moment when your friend becomes practically deaf, because he is too busy looking down trying to reply to an unknown person. Put that in perspective of someone driving if they cannot simply answer a yes or no question while texting, then why would it be okay for them to completely ignore the world around them while driving and putting theirs and others lives at risk?
