Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous things that can kill people. Adults and teenagers cannot resist the urge to pick up their cell phone and send a text or respond to one. People do not realize that it is impossible to multitask, while doing each task efficiently. When someone feels a vibration or hears a ring, it is hard to avoid the temptation of checking the notification on one’s phone. Individuals should not take texting and driving lightly because it distracts drivers and can be just as bad as drinking while under the influence. To many peoples lives are ending due to a simple distraction and it must come to an end.

Young adults tend to lose focus as soon as they look at their phone screen. Simple slogans and catchphrases on billboards do not lower this risk; they rather increase the distraction of a driver. However Education Weekly suggests the idea of “stronger penalties” because it’s going to take more than “awareness campaigns” to stop these actions. The more forceful a consequence becomes, the chances of common texting while driving incidents could decrease. This could tame the individual’s mind to not even think about losing their focal point off the road. For instance, Bernstein & Bernstein list an example in which a colleague’s “situational awareness” was affected while a red light turned green; which led to him rear-ending into another’s vehicle.
