Imagine a beautiful rainbow made of only one color. Blue. Impossible, right? If only one color existed, there would be no rainbow, only sky. A rainbow is made up of billions of unique blends of colors, just like our society is made up of billions of unique people. With their advertisement, Skittles is not only promoting their product, they are promoting acceptance. By utilizing the symbol of the rainbow Skittles makes it clear that personality comes before appearances. The rainbow, now a symbol for the LGBT Community stands for embracing your true personality. Skittles places the rainbow across the entire advertisement, drawing the eye to the colorful imagery that is portrayed. Had no one ever taken a stand against conformity, women would still not be able to vote and our country would rely on slave labor. The only text Skittles uses is written in similarly structured phrases: short and to the point. In utilizing isocolon, Skittles swiftly endeavors to convince others to buy their products. With the balanced form, the words flow and are easy to remember. On top of that, a wordy advertisement often does not capture the audience's full attention; limited to a few words, Skittles showcases the favorable aspects of their candy. In this one of a kind advertisement, they claim that character trumps appearance. Even though the green skittle looks like radioactive slime and the orange skittle is way too bright to be natural and the purple skittle is not even that purple, Skittles shows that it's what's on the inside that counts.The advertisement is arranged for the most important objects to be the largest and most colorful to capture the audience’s attention.
