Personal Statement: A Career As A Nurse

Decent Essays
How can I become a nurse? According to Chamberlain College of Nursing (2012, p. 1) Art Williams states “I'm not telling you it's going to be easy. I'm telling you it's going to worth it“.Becoming a nurse will have its ups and downs, but this will determine me to work hard and strive to be the best nurse I can be. The things I will be going through will build me into a male nurse which I can pursue my passion for helping others. With my loving and caring qualities, the job will come natural, which will eventually transform my career into my lifestyle. Perusing nursing as a career will benefit me because there aren't too many male nurses in the field and the demand for male nurse has grown.

As I was growing up, I remember the times when my grandmother will be getting ready for work. I could tell that she enjoyed her job as a Registered nurse (RN) and was happy to be able to provide for our family. I want to make sure that I'm taking care of the patient and doing all I can do to care for them. I also would like to make my patient’s feel at home and would love to connect with them on a personal level. Having a connection would help the patient and me because it will help us grow a bond with each other and make it easier on the type of patient. Another philosophy that I have is making sure that I'm at work on time. Being on time is very important in the nursing field because nurses are supposed to be professionals and to be late is not showing a sign of being professional. My last philosophy is that nurses help people all around the world. If we didn't have any nurses, we wouldn't be able to get checked up or determine what medicine to take if we were

My nursing plan is to obtain my ASN degree and continue to work at Billings Clinic but transfer into PACU as an RN. I would like to work in PACU because it will give me the critical care nursing skills I desire to achieve, as well as a good place to begin my nursing career for experience. I like the idea of taking care of patients who are coming out of surgery and require extra care before they can go home or to a hospital room for overnight stay. As a nurse with an ASN degree my roll would be the same as most of the nurses on a hospital floor; although, in addition to the ASN I would need to obtain my critical care certificate to work in PACU. As a registered nurse with an ASN my roles in this healthcare setting would be to provide and manage quality care for patients, promote healthcare advancements of patient daily living and to ensure proper safety and infection control practices and techniques.…

Patients should be informed of everything regarding their health and should know the purpose behind each procedure and medications so that they may make those informed decisions. Patients also deserve nurses who are committed to a lifetime of learning so that we may take advantage of the new technology that will assist in the healing process and the new advances in medicine. Above all else, patients deserve to keep their dignity, which includes respecting the…

I am choosing nursing not only as my program of study, but my profession as well. I have always had a strong desire and passion to help those in need. It also gives me great pleasure to know that I am able to help someone just because I care. For example, when I was four years old I saved a two-year-old child that had fallen in the pool and was drowning; no one at the pool realized this child had fallen in, except me. It was natural instinct for me, save this child!…
