Personal Narrative: Becoming A Nurse

This is a question that I have been asked many times in my life. I have thought about my answer on numerous different occasions and over the years my reasoning has never changed. I am 20 years old, and the story of me arriving into this world is memorable and a part of why I have chosen to become a nurse. My mother went into labor at 26 week and they told her to be prepared, as the likelihood of me surviving being born that early was not good. I, however, held on for eight more weeks and was born at 34 weeks. I was only four pounds, but I must have been determined even then. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at birth, which subjected me to having to have blood drawn what seemed to be all the time. However, with these many mishaps my opinions as to what I want to do with my life became even more set in stone than they were before. I always looked up to my nurses, because they were my shoulder to cry on when I was being poked and prodded. I was able to turn to them for comfort when I needed it, and as I got older, I realized that nursing was the career choice that I wanted to pursue, because I wanted to be just like them. I wanted to be there for people in their time of need, and more than anything I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to help people. I have always been told that I have a very kind and caring personality, and nursing is the perfect way to put it to use. I will say that one of my most recent health mishaps really proved that I had chosen the right field. The summer of 2014 I had to have my gallbladder removed, and the nurses that I experienced were just amazing. They were there for me, and they were so supportive throughout my healing
