Personal Statement: A Career As A Nurse In PACU

Decent Essays
My nursing plan is to obtain my ASN degree and continue to work at Billings Clinic but transfer into PACU as an RN. I would like to work in PACU because it will give me the critical care nursing skills I desire to achieve, as well as a good place to begin my nursing career for experience. I like the idea of taking care of patients who are coming out of surgery and require extra care before they can go home or to a hospital room for overnight stay. As a nurse with an ASN degree my roll would be the same as most of the nurses on a hospital floor; although, in addition to the ASN I would need to obtain my critical care certificate to work in PACU. As a registered nurse with an ASN my roles in this healthcare setting would be to provide and manage quality care for patients, promote healthcare advancements of patient daily living and to ensure proper safety and infection control practices and techniques. …show more content…

Through this program, I hope to finish off all of my nursing program pre-requisites and then transfer to Oregon Health & Science University. There’s a nursing program through OHSU offered at Western Oregon University, not far from where I live, and I hope to get a Bachelor of Science there. After that, I hope to be employed as a nurse at a hospital, working in Critical Care, in one of the areas listed here: ‘According to "The Registered Nurse Population" study, 56.2% of all nurses work in a hospital setting, and critical care nurses work wherever critically ill patients are found — intensive care units, pediatric ICUs, neonatal ICUs, cardiac care units, cardiac catheter labs, telemetry units, progressive care units, emergency departments and recovery rooms. ’(American Association of Critical-Care Nurses). I learned that the cure was not known yet, however through research, our understanding of the disease and its treatment is developing. I followed this up through personal research into neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia, which is becoming a growing…
