The Day I Took Flight
I was horrified. Not even a little bit of excitement. I did the best I could to show that I was excited. I repeated the question over and over again in my head as I walked downstairs. I could not believe it. I had no way of escaping it. It had to happen. I had to do whether I wanted to or not.
Most people wouldn’t say that after someone revealed a birthday surprise. I repeated the question over one more time in my head “Do you want to take flight lessons for your birthday.”
It all started with me being asked to be with my uncle for a week on vacation. I was excited until I was asked to FLY A PLANE. I barely slept the night before. My uncle had breakfast ready for me so I ate and then we jumped in the car to make to the

“If I make it out of here alive” I thought to myself.
Then we all walked outside and looked at the plane we were flying. The instructor explained that we had to do multiple safety checks before we took off. So he walked around the plane checking to see if it was already to be in the air. Then he took a gas test to see if the gas level was ok. Finally after what seemed like a hundred tests we in the plane. I was so scared, it felt like I could not move. Somebody randomly drives by us in a car and stops. He just sat their looking at the plane. Finally he said something “You do know that the plane you are in has been having electrical issues right?”
“No, I didn’t know,” replied the flight instructor. “Well,” the flight instructor said, “I guess you will have to come back later, our next plane comes back in an

For some reason I was happy. I knew that we would come back later. It turned out that we were not leaving and coming back later. We just stayed at the airport for an hour. In that time we were able to walk around and look at all the planes. The coolest plane at the entire airport was a Private jet that was being stored their. I seemed to be jumping out of myself with anxiety. After all this time watching planes take off and land I was actually starting to get excited. So finally we all walked back outside and examined in the new plane. The flight instructor ran all the tests that he ran before on the new plane. Although this time he did the tests more quickly. He looked like he wanted to get this over with just as much as I did. As the flight instructor entered the plane I closed my eyes. I don’t know why I kept them closed but I

The illustration that really caught my eye was when the fly is responds to the spider “Oh no, no, for I’ve often heard it said, they never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed!” This specific picture really spoke volume to me on many occasions. The illustration shows the fly looking over at the spider’s bed and there is a group of ghost bugs holding a book called “The joy of cooking bugs.” The fly is aware of the spider’s misleading words because she is constantly proving to him that she isn’t a fool. Although she is aware of the spider’s tactics the fly still gets eaten by the spider.…

My sister, my mom, and I all got up very early on a crisp Thursday morning, and drove to the airport. We went through security, which was very fast because we were the only ones there, waited for a bit at the terminal, then boarded the plane. As our jet slowly accelerated into takeoff, I recall feeling very excited to be going to Orlando, but also quite nervous for the upcoming performance. We flew for a couple hours, then had a short layover, then we flew a little more. With a whoosh and a bump, our plane finally landed in Orlando, Florida.…

I received a class date starting after the first of the year, and when Christmas break came, we headed west to get an apartment rented. The first half, contact portion, of flight school was in Mineral Wells, Texas. The trip was an experience as they were just beginning to build the interstate highway system. As we traveled through Mississippi and Louisiana, the roads were just two lanes (one each way) with steep banks and a swamp on each side of the road. There were numerous insignificant towns and unique scenery, but as we passed through Fort Worth, the trees ended, making us sad that we would be spending the next several months in a barren environment.…

I loved watching as the planes wheels took off from the ground and everything below got smaller and smaller. I find some gum at the bottom of my purse, and offer the guy with the bible and the giant some, both excepted. I lean back into my seat, the plane starts to rumble and wobble. I jump up and grab the hand rails on the side. The pilot comes on and tells us to buckle up due to turbulence.…

The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…
