This advertisement for the popular soft drink Pepsi, aired on television in 2013 and featured the successful and popular recording artist Beyoncé, who was the featured artist of that year’s Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. The advertisement begins with Beyoncé rehearsing her choreography in front of multiple mirrors. She then takes a break to cool down, walking over to a cooler full of Pepsi cans. She takes one, cracks open the can, and takes a sip. As Beyoncé takes a sip of the soda, her music begins to play and she looks up to see herself in the mirror as she appeared in one of her previous music videos (as she stands in front of the mirror she remains as she was previously in the commercial, not as she appears in the mirror). She then looks around to see an additional version of herself from an earlier music video in one of the other mirrors. This happens once again and Beyoncé then begins to dance along with her former self in the mirror. The frame then pans out to reveal a different past version of herself within each mirror as she dances along with her past selves. Beyoncé then spins around and spreads her …show more content…
The mood of the ad is cheerful and fun, with an upbeat Beyoncé playing throughout it and splashes of bright colors, such as the royal blue color of a Pepsi can. Within this advertisement Beyoncé portrays a glamorous and fierce image, giving the beverage being advertised a similar feel within this ad. This commercial is neither true to life or puffery, but it is closer to being an example of puffery with its use of sex appeal, glamorization, and celebrity endorsement. It portrays a message that with Pepsi cola you too could be like Beyoncé and live in the moment.
