“Make Sure Your Man Smells Like a Man” (Old Spice) is a classic line from Old Spice ads for scented gel, body wash, aftershave, and cologne that use stereotypes and visual literacy to draw in their viewers. The commercial portraits that when you buy Old Spice anything is possible and that you will get any female by applying Old Spices products. The Old Spice commercials picture what the stereotypical “Man” ought to look like, a muscular, stunning man who cleans and takes care of himself. These funny and engaging ads may be for a guys' product, but Old Spice is trying to grab women's attention. They do this by saying in their ads, “The man your man could smell like.” (Old Spice)
To comprehend these background signs used by the Old Spice are called visual literacy (which is a method to get their points across their viewers by varying contexts). They use a lot of jealousy, and the stereotypical man “Isaiah Mustafa” to get women to buy their product. This suggested purpose is to show all women that their “man can be a better man” by using these various products offered by Old Spice. By these grabbers, the company wants women surprisingly, and men to buy the product for a special someone or themselves.
