My Motivation For Pursuing A Ph.d

Improved Essays
My motivation for pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Science at UC San Diego (UCSD) emanates from my lifelong goal to be a leading scholar in the fields of International Relations and Comparative Politics, teaching and conducting research at a major research university. UCSD’s Department of Political Science’s model of cross-disciplinary work, ethos on close mentoring and supervision, emphasis on methodology and multivariate analysis, wealth of world-class faculty across subfields, combined with the extraordinary research facilities and resources, make your distinguished university an ideal place in which to pursue a doctoral degree in Political Science.
My academic, work, and volunteer experiences serve as germane preparation for your doctoral program in Political Science. During my junior college years, I focused my studies on political science and worked as a tutor in several political science courses, including an introductory course on comparative politics. In line with my studies, I served as a vice-president of a young democrats club, where I organized several public and political speeches, including a speech featuring Congressman Sam Farr. I also strived to increase awareness among youth of the importance of voting and getting involved in the democratic political process, particularly during the 2004 Presidential Election.
In 2007, I received scholarships from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS), where I majored in International Relations and graduated

In the past couple of years, I have learned a lot about myself and the world around me, and many factors, including A.P. Gov, have contributed to my political ideology, interpretation of the American Dream, Political culture, and future participation in politics. To begin with, I will talk about how I interpret the American Dream. When I think of the American Dream, I think of the sixties’ view of the perfect family, with two kids and a nice house fenced in with white picket. I see the ability for anyone to move up the socioeconomic ladder, no matter who they are.…

I am a senior at Mercer Island High School and will be attending the University of Washington in the fall. I actively participate in our democracy by writing letters and even traveling to Washington DC to lobby to Representative Adam Smith. I am writing to you because I have noticed a lack of political efficacy in the country and strongly believe that students should have a fair chance to have their voices heard. When I learned about children poisoned by the leaded water in Flint Michigan due to their multimillion-dollar deficit, I was touched and immediately thought of what my family would do if we couldn’t use water from our plumbing. I am very lucky to be living in a place where we don’t have to worry much about our water, but our increasing…

Howard University guarantees their students a very well-rounded education, while still letting them dive into the beauty of their majors. As a Howard student, I will be able to reach my full potential intellectually and socially and strive for success in my intended field of study, Political Science. I’ve been interested in political science for a long time and what intrigued me the most was that I would be learning more about other countries and focusing on their cultures, belief systems, and stances on various international issues and crises. As well as an in-depth look at domestic politics and this country’s government, which goes perfectly with Howard’s convenient location in Washington, D.C. the home of Capitol Hill, The White House, and 177 foreign embassies.…

Politics was something that was never passed on to me. My mother, a native Cuban who witnessed the Cuban Revolution at a very young age, and my father, the son of a Pennsylvanian blue-collar worker, have never been deeply involved in politics. They never thought, however, that they would have a son who would be engaged in government. Currently, I serve as the chair of the Florida High School Democrats, the official caucus of High School Students at the Florida Democratic Party. I created this organization to increase awareness of government and to combat voter apathy, a recurring theme within the youth community.…

Since his junior year in high school, Sorbe was in communication with Dr. Eric Jepsen, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Undergraduate Study for the political science department. “Dr. Jepsen was the first political science faculty member to reach out to me and really show me the opportunities that USD can offer me,” Sorbe said. “He showed me that USD is big enough that there are enough resources and opportunities within athletics or academics to pursue, but small enough that it is feasible to do both. That aspect was something that really appealed to me.”…

My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…
