Politics was something that was never passed on to me. They never thought, however, that they would have a son who would be engaged in government. Currently, I serve as the chair of the Florida High School Democrats, the official caucus of High School Students at the Florida Democratic Party. I created this organization to increase awareness of government and to combat voter apathy, a recurring theme within the youth community. Under my supervision, myself and the over 10 chapters across the state have successfully registered over 750 students; most of which registering as Democrats. I have also partnered with several organizations, including but not limited to Youth in Government, Junior State of America, and 4-H to show the newest face of the Democratic party and to recruit potential leaders or members. However, I did reach out to other students across the state to implement liberal values at several schools and ensured that students had a chance to be heard. If I am unable to be an At-Large delegate or an Alternative, I would want to become a Page for the Convention. New England Federalists did not have any reason to trust the decisions of the Democratic-Republican party along with Thomas Jefferson or James Madison. In the years spanning from 1805-1812 the presidents belonging to this party created and passed acts and treaties that repeatedly failed and hurt the New England economy. The first plan President Jefferson tried was planned to counteract the trade restriction Britain was imposing on the United States. The United States Congress passed the Non-Importation Acts in 1806. This forbid Britain to import specific manufactured goods to the United States (Malone, Dumas).…

I am interested in going to Badger Girls State because this would be an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity and a privilege for me. My ancestors have always been involved in politics, from signing the Mayflower Compact, being written about in George Washington’s letters, fighting for women’s suffrage, and even now, voting, and voicing their opinions in the elections. I not only grew up learning about politics, but want to pursue a career as a political science teacher. I don’t believe my generation fully understands politics and how important it is for them to vote and get involved in politics. I want to change this in my own classroom.…

Republican Nomination. In 1980, Reagan entered the Republican nomination battle with support from the Republican Party in the polls. At this point Reagan had been in the national political presence for around 16 years and in the movie/film presence for about 30 years before that. “There was some suggestion among journalists that he remained something of an enigmatic figure to the mass public. As Newsweek put it, "at the very hour of his coronation... as the Republican nominee, he remains only hazily known to millions of his countrymen," (Anderson, 1988).…

In today 's American political system, voters find themselves confronted with two options. These two options being the ever conflicting platforms of the Democratic and Republican parties. Regardless of an individual voter 's personal views, they don 't have much choice in what happens to their country. Many call this choice of parties “picking from the lesser of two evils,” stating that no choice represents them. Public support of the parties is somewhat forced by lack of choice, clearly shown by the steady decline in voter turnout since the 1960s (DelReal).…

After a candidate secures the election bid for their party, their work is not over. While securing the nomination is a big deal, in actuality, their work is just beginning as they typically have only spent time talking to the members of their own party. Now, these candidates must go out and try to convince members of another party as to why they should support and ultimately vote for them. We have seen Secretary Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump do this throughout all three of the televised Presidential Debates as well as the countless rallies that…

Partisan divide in the United States has grown over the past few decades, and has reached a point that the views of the average office holder on either side is no longer appealing to many members of society, as their political ideology is not consistently extreme. However, if the Republican Party were to make their policies more moderate when it comes to government aid to the poor, unauthorized immigrants, and energy priority they could potentially gain new followers. When it comes to government aid to the poor the partisan line is very divided, but there are a few policies the Republican Party could suggest to form a more moderate platform. One of the first would be to suggest tightening regulation on who qualifies for the aid, and setting…
