“I definitely don’t think student-athletes put athletics first,” Sorbe emphasized. “A student-athlete can be a leader on campus outside of athletics and I’m excited to prove that.”

“SGA is a platform for the university to give students a direct line of communication with administration.
“There is a lot of responsibility being a political science student and being a part of SGA,” Sorbe said. “You are making decisions for so many people and it’s a huge sense of duty to give back to the people that you represent.”
In high school, Sorbe was just as involved as he is now. USD sought after Sorbe both from an athletic standpoint and an academic one. Since his junior year in high school, Sorbe was in communication with Dr. Eric Jepsen, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Undergraduate Study for the political science department.
“Dr. Jepsen was the first political science faculty member to reach out to me and really show me the opportunities that USD can offer me,” Sorbe said. “He showed me that USD is big enough that there are enough resources and opportunities within athletics or academics to pursue, but small enough that it is feasible to do both. That aspect was something that really appealed to me.”
Because of his growing involvement on campus and interest in helping the student body, Sorbe made the decision to run for SGA President with a close friend and classmate of his, Madison
