Howard University Personal Statement

Howard University guarantees their students a very well-rounded education, while still letting them dive into the beauty of their majors. As a Howard student, I will be able to reach my full potential intellectually and socially and strive for success in my intended field of study, Political Science. I’ve been interested in political science for a long time and what intrigued me the most was that I would be learning more about other countries and focusing on their cultures, belief systems, and stances on various international issues and crises. As well as an in-depth look at domestic politics and this country’s government, which goes perfectly with Howard’s convenient location in Washington, D.C. the home of Capitol Hill, The White House, and 177 foreign embassies. …show more content…
Not to mention, there is a large number of opportunities to take part in, such as interesting research projects and life-changing internships. In addition, I would be given great options for concentrations within political science, such as American Government, Black Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Public Policy and Theory. Since I’m fascinated with international affairs, then I would be able to have a concentration in International Relations. To make me a more qualified candidate for a job in the workforce, I can complement that knowledge of different worldviews with an understanding of one or more foreign languages like Mandarin Chinese or Arabic and an adventure studying a semester or a year abroad. I’ve taken Mandarin Chinese for 5 years in middle school and high school. With this chance, I can improve my Chinese language skills towards proficiency and apprehend more regarding Chinese culture, China’s stance on international issues and its position on the world
