They took that a step further when they were at the forefront of adopting the use of Gentle Teaching. Gentle Teaching is a technique/philosophy used to help individuals feel safe, and affirmed. Gentle teaching helps teach the individuals and employees to build relationships and maintain those relationships by learning to use affirmation. There are four pillars to “Gentle Teaching,” which include; loved, loving, safe, and connected. As people, we all need to feel these four things in order to be successful as a community member. MOKA also uses the Gentle Teaching philosophy with their employees, which makes them feel important and valued as an employee. The staffing pool at MOKA differs from other providers in the field. MOKA takes great pride in hiring quality staff. MOKA uses a specific approach called “Hiring for Attitude,” to select employees with the right skills and attitude for their company. “Hiring for Attitude” matches well with the culture of MOKA and has proven to find the right kind of employees for the corporation. Tom Zmolek has a personal connection to the mission, as his younger brother was diagnosed with autism. Tom spent much of his time as a child traveling around the country searching for the best services for his brother. Tom is a very compassionate person who shows his compassion by reaching out to his employees and learning about them. When an executive director makes an attempt to know about their employees, it says a lot about them. It also shows the employees they are cared about and are being heard, and that they are not just another employee that nobody cares
