Due to the residential houses being staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, I and others are susceptible to experiencing burnout. The prevention of becoming burnt out is a specific point made during the assimilation process when I was newly hired. Within the house there is a hierarchy. This consists of the house director, The assistant house director and four direct care staff. Due to the small amount of staff, small group communication is key. On a weekly basis we conduct a staff meeting. This is usually where we all equally partake in strategic communication. Through group processes we find resolutions to issues that have arisen during the week. We work toward a common goal that protects and respects the gentlemen we support. As well as discussing and solving issues, we brainstorm on introducing new opportunities and positive experiences for the gentlemen. Through teambuilding and mutual respect, we can communicate with openness. We appreciate each other's input and value one another's opinions.
