IHN(Interfaith Hospitality Network) of Coastal Georgia is located right here in Savannah, at 126 Horizon Park Dr. However, there are additional Family Promise locations in Springfield, Bluffton, and Richmond Hill (familypromise.org).
The story behind the Family Promise agency is a beautiful one. Their mission was ignited by one woman’s simple act of kindness. It all started when Karen Olson bought a homeless woman a sandwich, and snowballed from there. Karen utilized pre existing resources in her community and was able to create a movement (familypromise.org). Talk about a change agentry! What began with affecting just one woman, now impacts 50,000 annually (familypromise.org). This is such an important reminder that we all can make a difference, and that we all can advocate for change.
The mission statement written on their website states, “Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response (familypromise.org).” Now to explore that further it is vital to look into their current programs and community efforts.
