Freshman year in college is where you are supposed to figure your life out so you can prepare for the “real world.” When most of my peers are changing their majors and trying to figure out what they are supposed to do with their lives, I was blessed to have a family and high school that provided me with experiences that made my decision obvious after exploring many options ranging from business to engineering. With already knowing what I would like to do with my life once I receive my undergraduate degree in professional biology with a minor in chemistry. I would like to further my education and attend medical school. Most likely I will be trying to achieve an Osteopathic Degree (DO) not just a Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD). This is not something that just happens overnight. In my personal case I have always shown an interest in serving others and with the human body. I am fascinated with the groundbreaking abilities that the body processes which include cardiovascular, skeletal, and muscle systems. The way each one of these work independently and in conjunction with one another in harmony hints at the complexity of the human body. I have a wealth of personal experiences with doctors from playing soccer and just enjoying the outdoors that have led me to be interested in the field as well. When I had my knee surgery due to a soccer injury I was placed under special care of one specific doctor and he monitored my recovery closely. Not all of my experiences with doctors have been pleasant but at the end of the day being a doctor is something that is personable and just because you understand how the human body works and know how to heal the patient that does not mean that you are a good doctor. This is subjective but being a doctor requires you to enjoy being around people who are upset and not in a stable state due to injury. In “Medical schools Reboot For 21st Century”, schools such as Michigan State are totally redoing how they do their programs from focusing more on the communication side and personable side of practicing medicine.
