Become a selfless person and help those who made our country for what it is. The elderly carved a path for us to walk so why should you be selfish towards them? Become a selfless person and help others who are in need of even the minor things. “The willingness to volunteer, is a selfless act.” This quote is from Mike Doody and has a powerful meaning. If you are willing to volunteer for your local community, then you aren’t being selfish, you are a selfless person. You are giving up your time to help others who need your help and that is a selfless act to do that. Many people think my time is precious and I need every minute I can get to myself so why should I volunteer? By volunteering you are giving your time up to help someone else’s day go better. Even just a smile will make them feel better about their day. Take at your life and see if you are a selfish or a selfless person. If you are selfish I encourage you to become more selfless and help those who need your help. Even giving a smile to someone you don’t know could always make their day and that is a selfless act. Both the real world and the world of The Fountainhead hold up selflessness, compromise, and sacrifice as virtues to end all virtues, and attack anything in opposition to these principles with ferocity. A truly selfish person is nothing like the traditional meaning of the word. An objectivist would say that becoming truly selfish is the ultimate triumph over the forces of collectivism and to some extent our own natures. Others, such as Toohey, find it far more despicable to be truly selfish than to be the misused stereotype that we often associate with the word (ex. Gail Wynand.)…

Anyone with a sense of self pride is condemned to death, and everyone has to be equal so that nobody feels poorly about themselves. However, this is not how it has to be. There can be a healthy balance of selfishness and selflessness. This is also explained in The Virtue of Selfishness when it explains, “But it does mean that he does not subordinate his life to the welfare of others, that he does not sacrifice himself to their needs, that the relief of their suffering is not his primary concern, that any help he gives is an exception, not a rule, an act of generosity, not of moral duty, that it is marginal and incidental — as disasters are marginal and incidental in the course of human existence — and that values, not disasters, are the goal, the first concern and the motive power of his life.” One should have the freedom to choose to be selfish or selfless and find a balance because if one has to pick one or the other, it creates an imbalance in society.…

I feel that in life, it is important that I always improve myself and make myself into a better person everyday. Sometimes, when I perform a task for someone else or do a favor for them, I gain a sense of accomplishment and feel like I did my job as a human being to give to people who can’t do certain tasks for themselves. This idea of helping others has always been intertwined in my personality. Although I always tried to have a positive impact on many people, I still feel that I have not done enough, prior to an important event which occurred in my life only about 1 year ago, I had some selfish qualities about myself and in certain situations, I put myself before others who couldn’t help themselves. When I was elected to national Honor Society…

As stated by Julian Casablancas, “greed is the inventor of injustice as well as the current enforcer.” This quote is a great reflection of the book No Country for Old Men because of the conflict that occurs between the characters over the greed of money. But the money that the characters deal with is no piggy bank and it would make any man drool over its presence because the bag of cash has millions of dollars in it. One of the characters, Llewelyn Moss comes across this bag and risks his wife’s life and even his own in order to protect it. One of the main themes that is displayed in the novel is greed; in first world countries, it is normal for people to own a lot of things because it is advertised through media and even through each other.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
