Communication is very important in providing quality care to patients. At the clinic, I am constantly following up with pharmacies and providers of any patients’ inquiries so that there are no complications. Also, I interact with a diverse range of patients and providers from many backgrounds and nationalities. The HIHIM program will further improve my teamwork and leadership skills from the small group assignments to the capstone project.
Finally, the HIHIM program will help me become involve with one of my area of interest which is researching medical data. I come in contact with patients’ profiles and it is fascinating to note their diseases, treatments, and successes/failures. Also, during staff meetings, a medical provider will present data regarding screenings and diseases. This is very interesting knowing some diseases are preventable if patients followed certain guidelines then health care cost can be reduced.
Health Informatics is a growing field and I want to be a part of it with so many opportunities in various departments in the healthcare field that does not involve direct patient care. After graduation I hope to be certified as a RHIA. It would definitely prove to future employers that I am qualified and proficient in HIM and I am up for whatever awaits
