Analytical Summary: “High school to college transition, part 1: The freshman myth” In the article “High school to college transition, part 1: The freshman myth” written by Dr. Brian Harke Ed on June 22 2010 sheds light on the high dropout rate on, high school seniors and there transfer to college. Dr. Harke’s exigence is that he wants to do all he could to let students know that this myth is not a game. He wants to see students go into college and be successful rather than become another statistic of this myth. The argument that Dr.Harke used is evolution because he is telling his audience of witch is high school seniors and their parents that the myth is no joke and he wants to see change. Dr.Harke then explains the details of the large amount of drop outs and then gives his own personal experience with it. He also spends time at the end of his article to give advice and steps on how to enter college and succeed in early college life. …show more content…
I believe the author also wanted to do what he could to inform students on how to not fall victim to the epidemic. In this article the author used statistics from a “2008 California Department of Education report to calculate the high school consoler to student ratio” (Harke P.5) He also used the “U.S. Census and American College Testing Program”(Harke P.3) to find the percentage of students who dropped out in 2008. Dr.Harke also said “As a result, most counselors are left with little time to help high school seniors prepare for the academic, social, and personal challenges associated with transitioning to college”(Harke P.5) he finds a way to explain how the students may not be fully educated by the time they make it to
