Essie Mae Siglar: A Character Analysis

Essie Mae Siglar, my grandmother and best friend. Unfortunately she passed in April of 2014, but she left with a trail of happiness and success. She has played a very influential part of my life. Without her, I don't think I would be the man young man I am today. I used to remember when I got in trouble with my mom, she would talk to me about what I did before my mom even talked to me about my mistakes. She wouldn’t talk to me in an angry tone or disappointed, it was more motivational. I would always get off the phone or leave her presence a better person than I was before. My grandmother engraved this in my brain for 16 years of my life. Every Time I would clean up and do it halfway, she would say the same exact saying every time, “do it right or do it over”, and I honestly got sick of it after a while. Since then I try to achieve anything that I do with one hundred percent perfection, and if it is not perfect then I have to re do it until it is. There are different definitions of perfection, but my grandmother taught me that perfection means doing precise work with integrity. The second saying my grandmother exposed me to is “better quiet that thought a fool, than to open your mouth and leave any doubts.” This taught me that in some situations, it is better to be silent and learn from being silence, than to say something foolish and have second thoughts about what I said. I always think twice before I say things now. I no longer communicate with people and feel bad or regretful, I leave feeling powerful and confident when I converse with others.
