Someone who has had a big impact on my life was my football coach. His name is PJ Book, Of course no one would refer to him as that unless they wanted a few extra sprints after practice. Instead he was always referred to as “Coach Book”. I only knew Coach Book for about 4 years, but during those years he had the biggest impact on me and was a huge role model.
Going into my freshman year everyone was afraid of him, and we all knew what a tough coach he was. Our freshman team was separate from the junior varsity and varsity team. Coach Book coached varsity but he would still come watch the JV and even freshman at their games. He always wanted to get a head start to see who he would get to work with next year. This would make everyone nervous

This made everyone else and I laugh. We joked with Robbie about how many sprints he was going to have to run at practice for the innocent comment. Its safe to say that nobody really talked to him much outside of football.
By the end of the season everyone had a much better relationship with coach Book including me. He had started to compliment me during practice.“Nice hit Reed!” “Good block!” Coach said. Everyone knew if he complimented you then he respected and liked you.
As the season was drawing to a close you could tell coach Book was having more fun. He was laughing a little more and made practice fun. He didn't yell at us much, because of all our hard work and practice, we didn't make many mistakes. A lot of the time he would even joke around with us during practice. It was almost as if Coach Book was turning into more of a friend than a frightening football coach.
It wasn't until the very last game of my senior season that coach Book really surprised me. Our season was wasn't the best but we had some played very talented teams. Nonetheless the coaches were still proud of us and knew we had worked hard all season. My teammates and I came out of the locker room and said our thank you’s to the coaches for everything they'd done for us. When I got to coach book he hugged me and

In elementary school, my mom brought me to my first Ole Miss soccer game. As the players warmed up, Hannah Weatherly, an All-American forward, inspected the Mississippi State players like a spider stalking its prey. As the referee’s lips touched the whistle to start the game, the players hustled as if their lives depended on it. Throughout the game, shots were fired; penalties were taken, and tackles were made. The fans throughout the game boasted, “Hotty Toddy!”…

The battle ready dad I never had Everyday I try to be the best man I can be. I attribute that to the most inspirational person I can think of, Jeff Jury. He helped show me what its means to be a man with sports by instilling values, goals, and motivation in me. So on the days when I feel as if I have survived a skirmish with life itself, I use the same characteristics as in football to draw strength and perseverance enabling me to get out of bed and carry on with my life. Each morning as I drift back to consciousness and one by one my senses return.…

Coaches have the power to change lives. I can humbly say this as all my coaches, both good and bad, have taught me in some way what it takes to be a good athlete and most importantly how to be a good human being. They have taught me life lessons that I can only hope to preserve by instilling them into my athletes in my time as a coach. The articles I have chosen to highlight in this essay show how coaches have helped to develop character in athletes, how they pushed them to be the best on and off the field of play, and illustrate how they stepped into the lives of athletes and became so much more than just a coach.…

My argument will be that are coaches reasonable for 50% of the athletes successes. In my case I think the coaches are are responsible for 50% of the athletes. I think they are and if that athlete fails that means the coach is still part of why that athlete failed. The same thing goes if that athlete success the coach is still a reason why the athlete succeeded. if you have a bad athlete with a good coach that coach can help a shape that bad athlete into a good athlete.…

Sports is a big aspect of high school life, especially the sport of football. The films The Blind Side, Remember the Titans, and Friday Night Lights, all revolve around the sport of football and how it manages to change the lives of the athletes. Among these films, the main themes I will focus on will be on the impact of being in a team and the influence an authority figure has on the athletes’ lives. I will begin with examining the theme of being a part of a sports team and how much growth it can have on an individual. At the beginning of the Blind Side, Michael Oher was extremely reserved and did not know how to play football.…
