Becoming A Nurse Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was a child my father would proclaim that when I grew up I would be a nurse. There were times when he was sick, and I recall being concerned for his well-being. During a vomiting episode, I remember remaining nearby to make sure he would not choke. I would prepare a paper towel and some water for when he was through. As I got older, the idea of becoming a nurse grew deeper. In high school, I took an assessment test and I scored high on the possibility of becoming a pediatrician or a veterinarian. I was excited because I remembered my father’s intuition. Upon graduating I thought, I was going to pursue my career as a pediatric doctor, but after giving birth to my son I realize I wanted to become a neonatal nurse. Observing how the nurses would take vital signs and care for the newborns was breath taking to me and I knew then that is what I wanted to do. I could do that for the rest of my life and be happy doing it.
After taking care of my children, and they were ready to attend school full time, I decided to return to school and continue my education and accomplish one of my minor goals of obtaining an associate’s degree at a community college. During the three years that I attended college, my widowed mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I assumed all responsibilities as her care giver, and understood the importance and the

I know I have the dedication, but I will need financial assistance to complete my bachelor’s degree in nursing. I know I will face challenges in the university such as more work than college, but I am driven to become a neonatal nurse. Once I complete my bachelor’s degree I will like to enter the work force to earn enough money to provide for my children’s continuing education, and relieve the debt accumulated while I was in college. I want my children to have a role model in me, and I know that if I fulfill my dreams they will be inspired to do whatever they want in
