Scholarship Essay: My Future Career As A Nurse

Improved Essays
I’ve always had different ideas for a future career path, but as I get older the options slim because I’m figuring out my passions in life. Last year, I decided to take a leap and apply to Pre-Nursing. I’m from High Point, NC and I attended Wesleyan Christian Academy. I am very fortunate for my parents sacrificing to pay for my education at Wesleyan because it is a college preparatory school. Wesleyan has prepared me for college in many ways that I am so thankful for. In the contrary, I’ve had countless people discourage the idea of becoming a nurse because of the difficulty getting into nursing school. It was hard to hear the negativity about the career path I am choosing but I’m turning it into positivity and motivation to succeed.
This semester, I plan to start my college career strong, and get exceptional grades to help my GPA. In high school, I was always an A or B student but I didn’t as hard as I should have. As I take Chemistry this semester, I plan to pay attention as much as possible and study in my free time. I want to believe that I can be a nurse, but I first have to put in the work to do so. While taking HAHS-1000, I’m going to listen carefully and take in every piece of advice I can. As we went over the academic integrity statements in class, it made me realize that I’m ready for this new chapter in my life. I’ve matured into a

I think achieving a goal is so much more than just grades. I believe the journey to reach the goal is extremely important to experience. It builds a person into who they are and who they will be in the future. I think making the right friends, study groups, activities, will help me become the nurse I want to be. Academically, I want to be strong and confident in the classroom the whole year. I know at times I will be confused on the subject of that class but if I take the initiative to ask questions, I will grow in my knowledge and as a

I often measure where I am in life and where I want to be in life. I believe that goal setting is very important to stay motivated and focused on my career as a teacher. One of the major goals I have is being able to expand and explore on the multiple options we have to excel in our teaching techniques and being able to help and understand the diversity in how students learn. This is a major goal for me because as I begin my career in education I will be able to expand on this idea as I place myself within classrooms, and within other teaching classes at the university. Throughout my future as a teacher I will continue to excel academically and will continue to learn how to become a successful teacher.…

I have always been envious of people who know exactly what they would like to do for a career. Sometimes they know before they leave high school and others figure it out in college. I however am still not totally sure what I would like to do. Recently, I set some goals for myself and seem to have a much better idea than I’ve ever had before. When I graduated from high school, I entered community college because that is what you were “supposed to do”.…

Six years ago when I started college I never would of imagined I would have dropped out of nursing school, switched my major to FACS and completed an internship teaching at the middle school I attended as a kid, but I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I realized there is no need to question myself if working with children is the career path for me because I 'm confident that this is my calling. Children are always finding fun, and I believe that as adults we sometimes forget what fun is. They also allow us to see things from a different perspective, notice things we once forgotten, and make us slow down again. I 've always believed that anytime someone is sad, angry, or frustrated there is no better cure than just spending some time with children.…

I shortly realized that is the kind of positive impact I want to be able to make for someone every single day. Although it will be a couple of years before I am able to achieve this goal, the thought of all of the possibilities my future has in store for me will encourage me to achieve my personal goal while I attend Truman. My goal is to become very involved around campus. I plan on joining intramural and clubs, and possibly studying abroad, while still maintaining good grades. As much as I want to leave a positive impact on children when I become a nurse, I want to be able to make the same impact on Truman during my four years.…

This gives them ownership and demonstrates their overall commitment. In addition, I plan to always give my students a “heads up” about what is going on. If the schedules, routines, and transitions are planned beforehand and students know what to expect, I will be setting myself up for a classroom with much greater success. Lastly, I was again reminded of the importance of relationships. In my own classroom someday, I will strive to develop connections with each and every one of my students.…

I hope that I will get more opportunities in learning how to reach more content areas across the curriculum, so I will have a solid foundation when I bring it into my classroom. One thing I struggle with is using multiple TEKS to one lesson. I really hope that I will be provided with practice in the classroom so when I am a teacher it will not be such a struggle. Once I am finished student teaching, I plan to devote my first year of teaching to finding effective lessons that can easily be accessed again throughout the year. I felt that it helped the students when their mind was constantly reminded of what they previously learned.…

I did succeed in making my grades but by the last months of the semester I realize that the stress that came with procrastination wasn’t worth in ad I started working on time management. In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. This realization has taught me that I can have a “fun” college experience without forgetting the reason I am at a university.…
