As I am in the last semester of nursing school I am looking forward to graduating and becoming a nurse, but most importantly I am proud of myself for being the first college graduate in my family. Mount Mercy has taught me to see the beauty in the art of nursing. A nurse is someone who is compassionate, honest, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and self-sacrificing. I believe that nurses will always go above and beyond to promote human connection and help those who are sick and suffering. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always wanted to become a nurse. When I would go in for a checkup I would observe all the things they would do to me and then go home and take care of my dolls. After becoming a CNA and getting that experience of taking care of patients, I realized that was my call to adventure. Applying to Mount Mercy after high school has been one of the best decisions I have ever made because I have realized how many boons a nurse gets and that nurses are truly heroes. When I first started the nursing program I had no clue how much nurses do. I had no clue about the nursing process and I just thought nurses did a lot of skills and never delegated anything. I think being a hero has a rewarding feeling because with your actions as a nurse you feel honored to have cared and saved many life of individuals. I have been able to contribute to my community, help those in need, and educate patients as a changed person. As a changed person I see myself as someone who will continue to help those in need, be there for people, and keep educating myself so that I can provide the best care possible.
