Carrick Felix has a job he never thought he would have. He is a professional basketball player. He plays for the Washington Wizards (District of Columbia). He overcame many hard times to get to where he is. For this reason, he shares his story with others. Two years ago Felix hurt his knee very badly. The injury forced him to start over. Now, Felix can once again call himself a professional basketball player. On Sunday, the Washington Wizards picked him for their team. Scott Brooks is the coach of the Wizards. He is proud of Felix. "He's earned this spot," Brooks said. "He wasn't given it." The 27-year-old Felix is very hard working. He even enjoys practicing boring parts of the game like free throws. It wasn't always this way, though, Felix once didn't like basketball. Growing up, he loved skateboarding. Focusing Was Hard For Him Felix's mom, Beverly, said that her son was short for a basketball player. Felix has something called ADHD. It stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. That means he has a hard time paying attention. He attended special learning classes. The classes helped him focus better. Felix said he was "bullied" at school. Teachers tried to steer him away from college. "What they said he couldn't do, he did," Beverly said. "With Carrick, we wouldn't let him fail no matter what." Before his second year of high school, Felix grew. His love for basketball also grew. He was so good he went on to play in college. In his fourth college season,…
