Even though self-harm is a dangerous act of potential suicide, some teens argue that self-harm is a tactic to prevent suicide. In fact, studies indicates that “many say they cut or burn themselves, or perform other forms of self-harm, because it is a form of escapism, a release or relief from the pressure of mental, emotional or personal problems” (Schusterbauer 51). This too is a problem because teenagers truly believe that performing self-harm is a helpful technique to cope with pain, but truly, it is a gateway to suicidal thoughts.
