During my time in my Kindergarten LAL/Math resource classroom I observed a student, who will be referred to as Ally for confidentiality reasons. Specifically, I observed Ally’s number recognition ability. Ally is currently five years old and is in her seventh month of Kindergarten. Ally lives at home with her mother, father, and older brother Mathew. Ally’s parents are very involved in her school life. They attend celebrations, meetings, and other events. Ally comes from a Russian family. Her parents both speak Russian and English. Ally is a fun loving student who enjoys coming to school and learning with her peers. Ally rarely has behavior issues and is typically compliant with her teachers. Ally also attends Russian school on the weekends in which she loves sharing her new learnings with the class. Ally strengths in school are retelling stories, Fundations, and problem solving in math. Ally is currently scoring about a year behind the Kindergarten grade level. Therefore, her IEP goals are geared towards skills she was having difficulty with in Pre-K the year before. Ally’s IEP goals for math include counting 11-20 objects suing 1 to 1 correspondence, counting out objects 1-20, modeling addition using counters, fingers, etc. within 10. Ally’s LAL IEP goals include identifying if two words rhyme, identifying character, setting, and major events, identifying nonfiction key details, and producing correct consonant sounds. Ally is currently classified as autistic and receives…
