Now Colleen is promoting these 14 managers to start working towards the efficiency related procedures. But these managers are not familiar with these procedures and lack the experience and confidence to perform it well, particularly for those managers from Medical One. It’s important for Colleen to spend her time engaging in a mix of initiating structure behaviors. Firstly, Colleen should emphasize the importance and insist her proposal of efficiency related procedures to the managers. Secondly, she should provide a detailed task list that should be done and discuss each list about how it shall be done. The first one is legitimate power. Now Collen is the supervisor of 14 nursing managers with the position title “Regional director of nursing efficiency”. She is supposed to have influence over these managers and let them do things that are considered within the scope of their jobs. Next is the reward power. As a supervisor, she has the ability of controlling and distributing valued rewards. The third one is expert power, since Collen is considered a highly successful manager of nursing in one of the Healthcare Plus clinics. She has enough experiences and knowledge to deal with the nursing management. To effectively use the power to cause behavioral and attitudinal changes of her managers, Collen should adopt some kinds of influence behaviors. The first one is rational persuasion. It is more helpful and effective than other behaviors in order to make the use of Collen’s Legitimate power and expert power. Firstly, she should explain the importance of the efficiency and cost containment. Then provide the data and statistics that prove these types of procedures had worked in Healthcare Plus. Further, analyze the similarities between Healthcare Plus and Medical One, as well as confidently prove the proposal that these procedures should be also successful in Medical One. By this kind of logical argument, these managers should start to realize the necessary of the procedures of efficiency. …show more content…
To build and maintain the trust with her managers, she should build up an effective leadership. As above mentions, she would better use day-to-day initiating structure behaviors and transformational behaviors. Besides, she should adopt a consultative style to make decision. Asking for all managers’ opinions before she make her final decision is helpful to make them trust her. Further, Colleen should share the same information and provide fair treatments to all managers, no matter whether they come from Medical One or Healthcare Plus. Maintaining a certain level of justice is critical in a combined firm. Through doing so, these managers would think Colleen is a reliable person because Colleen doesn’t discriminate between her employees. Also, such information should be accurate and delivered on time. So though these managers work in different state, they can receive parent company’s notice or important changes in a timely manner. Further, Colleen should establish communication with all managers, providing a channel that not only they can freely express their advices and opinions, but also Colleen can provide a timely feedback on these concerns, based on her own experience of
